Hungarian crew wins at FD Worlds In Tavira

FD World Championship 2002 - Hungarian crew wins at FD Worlds In Tavira
TAVIRA, PORTUGAL-(1-9-2002) Szabolcs Majthenyi / Andras Domokos are the Hungarians sailors leading, after four races, the World Championship of Class Flying Dutchman, an event taking place in Tavira, being organized by the Clube Náutico de Tavira.

The two sailors won the 1st race of the Championship, reached the 4th position on the 1st race of the second day of racing, a race that was fulfilled with a gentle breeze moving from the South quadrant. On the second race with the weak wind blowing from the same direction, the Hungarian team was able to arrive in the 1st position. On the 3rd race, already with strong winds blowing from southwest, these sailors got the second position right behind the Italian Cipriani/Morelli.

Therefore, at the moment and after 4 races the Hungarian crew leaders the World Championship of de Flying.

We remind you that the Hungarian sailors were World Champions in Australia in 1993, they leaded The European Championship for three times and for 10 years now they reach their national podium on the 1st position. But none of these athletes is a professional one. Szabolcs has a degree in the sports area and Andras is a commercial pilot. They are both 31 years old.

...“The races were great today, with good winds, specially the two last races. We enjoy medium or strong winds. The fleet is a balanced one and the courses it takes forces us to be careful even when we are on the front of the race” - declared Andras.

...”We don’t know the boat very well, we have to take more chances when taking-off. Anyway we have some weighting problems when the wind gets strong. This race had a long course and sometimes the wind changed suddenly which harmed our sailing” – declared Rafael.

Analyzing the gained points, at the moment the Hungarian crew leaders with 8 points followed by the Italian one, Roberto /Stephano. On the third place stands Hans Peter /Roland. The Portuguese team stands in the 21st position.

Tomorrow is another competition day, Monday, the 2nd of September the sailors accomplish two more races with the take-off foreseen for 12h00.
